Information and Communications Technology (ICT) magazine, eWorld is collaborating with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and National Information and Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to rally industry stakeholders to mark the 2013 Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) which comes up on May 17. The celebration coincides with the eWorld forum which holds every year.

Chairman of Telecom Answers Associates and Publisher of Cyberschuul News Titi Omo-Ettu, is expected to chair this year’s forum.
NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Eugene Juwah, and NITDA Director-General, Professor Cleopas Angaye, will give key note speeches. President of Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON), Mr. Chris Uwaje, will present a paper on ICT and Traffic Management.

For the past four years Ajomedia has organised the eWorld forum where industry stakeholders and members of the public gather to discuss topical issues that affect the industry.
The eWorld Forums, which was scheduled to hold in April, now shifted to accommodate the WTISD celebrations henceforth, have helped to shape and chart the way for the ICT industry.
This year’s event has two main themes: “Imperative for a Truly Digital Citizen and ICTs” and “Improving Road Safety, which is the primary focus of the WTISD celebrations for this year.”
The WTISD celebration is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies can bring to societies and economies, and as well bridge the digital divide.
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, celebrated each year on 17 May, marks the anniversary of the signature of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865 which led to the creation of the International Telecommunication Union.
ITU Council adopted the theme “ICTs and improving road safety” for World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2013, in accordance with Resolution 68 (Rev. Guadalajara, 2010).
World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated annually on 17 May since 1969, marking the founding of ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865. It was instituted by the Plenipotentiary Conference in Malaga-Torremolinos in 1973.
In November 2005, the World Summit on the Information Society called upon the UN General Assembly to declare 17 May as World Information Society Day to focus on the importance of ICT and the wide range of issues related to the Information Society raised by WSIS. The General Assembly adopted a resolution in March 2006 stipulating that World Information Society Day shall be celebrated every year on 17 May.
