Here's an update to the patent dispute that has long been brewing between the two tech giants - Samsung Electronics and Apple Inc.
Foss Patents' Florian Mueller has revealed that the iPhone maker is looking to include the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone to its list of accused products. The blog post elaborating on this development added that the Cupertino-based company analysed the smartphone and concluded that it is an infringing product. In fact, Apple has reportedly stated that it will exclude one of the products from its list of 22 products, once it is permitted to add the Galaxy S4 smartphone to this patent dispute.
Ironically, both Samsung and Apple have been asked to limit their list of accused products and bring it down to 10 products per side by February 6, next year. It is at this time now that Apple is seeking to make an addition to its list. Apple's existing list of 22 products does not include the Galaxy S4.
Additionally, the parties are disagreeing on the number of stock keeping units that can be counted as a single product, keeping in mind the limitations in the number of products. According to the blog post, Samsung has added that it "heavily customised software to carrier specifications" and counts different versions of the same product line that are sold through different carriers as different products.
Some of the Samsung products featuring on Apple's accused products list include: Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, while some of those on Samsung's list include: iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad mini, iPod touch (5th generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (3rd generation), MacBook Air, MacBook Pro.
